About the Therapies

Deep Tissue Massage

Deep Tissue is the application of heavy pressure on the muscles of the body. It is very popular with people seeking immediate relaxation or relief.
Aromatherapy Massage

Drake's Muscle Magic is an essential oil / Shea butter blend from Angels and Alchemy, Grass Valley. Drake's is offered as a massage cream for Swedish and Cross Fiber Massage.
Cross Fiber Massage

Cross Fiber Massage is a pulling action across the muscle fibers. It is very effective for relaxing stubborn tight muscles. The therapist uses slow firm pressure to go deeper than the superficial muscles to reach and massage deep muscles. Cross Fiber is for clients who need firmer pressure to help relax or for longer lasting pain relief.
Trigger Point Therapy

Trigger Point therapy is a type of deep tissue massage. Knots are found in the muscles and pressure is applied to soften them in order for the those muscles to relax.
Bowen Therapy

Bowen Therapy is a gentle yet precise roll of thumbs and fingers over muscles and fascia. It initiates temporary tensing of the muscles then relaxation. Specific regions of the body are addressed in sequence. A short pause between moves lets the body respond. This helps the body bring itself into balance. There are typically 7 to 10 sets of moves during a session. The average number of treatments people have is three to four. There are  always exceptions to any rule, and some people will need further or even on-going treatment. A week before and after the session, the client is encouraged to avoid other hands-on treatments in order for their body to be prepared for treatment and then afterwards to do its job of maintaining healthy balance.
What is Bowen? from The European College of Bowen Studies Ltd. has a good description of the techniques and effects of Bowen Therapy.
Bowen Moves which are integrated with other therapy types use the hand-on technique from Bowen Therapy.
Reiki

Reiki is energy work. Energy is channeled through the therapist to the client. This energy allows and empowers the body to heal itself. Reiki can be used by itself or in addition to hands-on therapy such as massage or Bowen Therapy. Reiki can be but does not need to be hands-on. It is ideal for someone who is sensitive to touch.
Swedish Massage

Swedish massage is a light, full body technique which uses petrissage (kneading of the skin) and effleurage (long gliding strokes). The main benefit of Swedish massage is relaxation. Fascia and superficial muscles relax under light, broad rubbing of the skin. Essential oil products are used to aid in relaxing sore muscles.
